JUNE CHAN
Info
I am a Hong Kongese visual artist currently living in London, UK. My artistic practice is deeply personal and shaped by my experiences as a woman of colour. I navigate social and political issues while exploring themes of blurred cultural identities, colonialism, and human relationships through various styles, media, and subjects.
Drawing inspiration from the childhood comics and cartoons I cherished, my illustrations blend humour and nostalgia with a psychological depth, often depicting emotionless, cartoon-like characters. These figures, juxtaposed against bright colours, create an interplay of humour and unease, inviting viewers to confront underlying tensions.
I also incorporate influences from cultural ceramics and tapestry patterns in my work, which connect past and present, heritage and identity. Through these elements, I aim to craft a dialogue between the personal and the collective, offering viewers an intricate tapestry of stories and perspectives that resonate on multiple levels.
